Tattoo Aftercare is very simple and straight-forward... Keep your tattoo clean & do not let it dry out. Everyone has different skin types/sensitivity and there are different levels of TRAUMA depending on the tattoo (size, detail, layers) and your immune health can also effect your individual healing process.
**These are general guidelines that work for most cases**
Remove Sani-Derm within 1-2 days after applied.
Wash thoroughly with unscented soap and water, and pat dry. Let air dry
(optional*) Re-Apply new layer of Sani-Derm and keep on for 2-4 days
Continue cleaning and moisturizing tattoo after the Sani-Term falls off
Remove bandage within 2 hours after tattoo completion and discard of.
Use hands to GENTLY clean tattoo with UNSCENTED SOAP (liquid or bar) and LUKE-WARM WATER. (make sure your hands are clean & be sure to clean any excess plasma/blood that is surfacing on your skin)
Pat dry with clean towel & apply THIN LAYER of ointment/lotion.
Repeat at least 3-5 times daily or as needed. (discontinue ointment & switch to lotion only after 3 days)
DO's and DONT's
DO NOT go swimming or submerge your tattoo underwater for 2 weeks.
DO NOT scratch or pick at tattoo during healing; Try to keep area as clean as possible, be conscious of pets, bacteria, or any abrasive objects coming in contact.
DO NOT re-wrap or suffocate the tattoo after you remove bandage. You want the skin to breathe and have a natural healing process.
DO NOT put any chemicals, products, ointments, Body Wash, or Antibiotic creams that you are unsure about. Keep it simple. Your tattoo is an open wound for several days: let it heal naturally.
DO NOT use vaseline for aftercare.
DO NOT listen to your friends. They are MORONS and are not a "Tattoo Expert" because they watch INK MASTER on TV and have one tattoo:))
COMMON AFTERCARE QUESTIONS/CONCERNS
YES its okay to shower!
Yes its normal for a tattoo to start "peeling" within a few days after its done. Its part of the healing process, and It may become ITCHY for a few days. Refrain from scratching or picking: it may cause damage to the tattoo.
YES its normal and somewhat common for additional redness, bruising, or swelling to occur, especially near extremities, sometimes for a few days. Elevating that area can dramatically reduce swelling.
YES its okay to workout (but be conscious of bacteria or sweat on equipment near your tattoo)
NO your tattoo will not "stretch" if you get "too buff" BRO... (a super common question people ask me lol)
RECOMMENDED OINTMENT/LOTION/SOAP & BRANDS:
AFTER INKED, REDEMPTION Aftercare Lubricant, & Desert Palms EMU OIL are my favorites.
Aquaphor -and- Vitamin A&D Ointment also works fine for most people if used very lightly, although i don't prefer.
ANY UNSCENTED/FRAGRANCE FREE lotion is safe.
DIAL unscented bar soap/ liquid hand soap works just fine.
